Protesters are expected to hit Denver streets again today in the third demonstration to take on police brutality in the wake of the officer-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week. The official gathering is scheduled to start at noon at the State Capitol building.

More than 2,000 people have RSVP’d to the Facebook event, but according to some reports, as many as 10,000 supporters are expected to show up.Over the last two days of protests, thousands of people from the Denver metro area and beyond have turned out on the city streets. Both Thursday and Friday began peacefully, with people gathering on both sides of Lincoln at the Capitol building and Liberty Park. Tay Anderson, the Denver School Board at-large director, lead protestors through city streets in a mostly peaceful march yesterday. However, as the sun went down, protesters reportedly began gathering near the city jail and were met with police in riot gear. From then on, police began using pepper balls and tear gas to disperse the crowd near the Capitol. Police say they have been hit with rocks and water bottles, with three officers reportedly injured on Thursday night. There has not been a statement released regarding last night’s violent end.

Today, city workers were out covering some of the graffiti that now covers buildings, sidewalks and light posts. Glass from broken windows and street lamps, gas canisters and remnants of pepper balls litter the ground.
