Look, we know we’re a little late getting this list out and LGBTQ+ Pride Month events are well underway. But better late than never, right? Right. So get off our backs, have a drink, play some bingo, dance your heart out, march for liberation, and celebrate queerness.
We all know about Denver Pride Fest happening later this month. How could you not? In pre-COVID times it was the Rocky Mountain region’s largest LGBTQ+ event. This year the celebration is a hybrid between in-person and virtual events, with hubs around the city for entertainment and food.
But we want to tell you about some of the other great events going on around the city this month. There’s a mix of free, donation-based and ticketed events that will get you in the spirit of the season.
June 11
Draåg Queens: The Show– The Haus of FishCandy presents this “pre-pride” show hosted by Alice Glamoures and featuring Mikki Miraj at The People’s Building in Aurora. Last-minute tickets are available at the door or online.
June 12
Free queer and trans clothing swap at Amethyst Coffee- Drink sales will be donated to Chrysalis House, a queer Black femme-run sex-positive cooperative. There’s a priority hour for Black and brown trans, disabled and plus size folks to get first dibs.
June 13
Drag Queen Bingo Brunch– Denver Milk Market and Dairy Block are hosting this drag bingo brunch every Sunday in June. The event is hosted by Shirley Delta Blow, accompanied by Kai Lee Mykels & Dixie Krystals. Seating is on a first come first served basis, so get there early.
The Majestic Melanated Cabaret!– Black Pride Colorado and Blush & Blu are celebrating the first Black Pride this year with a cabaret-style drag show. The event, hosted by Juiccy, gives a platform to Black and brown entertainers. Special guests are Felony Misdemeanor and Mikki Miraj.
June 18
Generations of Drag– Cobalt partnered with Fortaleza Familiar and Tracks Denver for this multigenerational show celebrating the history of drag in Denver. The event features Lushus LaRell, Jazmine James, LaLa & SaltQween Shearz, Nina Montaldo, Nita F’in Jay and DJ No Pants. There’s both an in-person and virtual version.
Geeks who Drink’s LGBTQIA+ Quiz– Anything and everything is on the table for this virtual pub quiz, including pop culture, history, literature and whatever was in the last issue of Out Magazine.
June 19
Black Pride– Black Pride Colorado and Tracks collaborated to bring you this event hosted by Miss Zarah with special guest A’Keria Davenport. There will also be performances by local entertainers.
June 20
Liberation Day– Presented by the Pride Liberation Movement, this event is returning for its second year to celebrate intersectionality within the LGBTQ+ community. The first half of the day will be celebrating that diversity with entertainment and food in Cheeseman Park. After a march to the Civic Center, the second half will be centered around mobilization and social justice, with speakers from direct action organizations. A candlelight vigil will end the day in honor of transgender, Black and Asian people lost in the last year.
June 24
Living in Color Queer Cookout– Hosted by Denver Black Queer Collective, Images by Tyrell and Fort Greene Bar, this private event for all Colorado BIPOC identifying folks will bring pride and queer joy, old and new school music and BBQ with all the trimmings.
Glitter is Everyone’s Best Friend– This Clocktower Cabaret event benefits The Center on Colfax and is hosted by Dixie Krystals. It features diverse entertainment from Denver’s drag community. Ticket availability is limited.
June 26
Latinx Pride Dance Party– This morning dance party kicks off Saturday night of pride weekend at LUCID Lounge but will also be live-streamed at Pueblo’s Fiesta Day Celebration. Dj Buddy Bravo will be spinning Reggaeton, Cumbia, Salsa, and more.
